What is a Dental Bridge?
Like dentures or dental implants, a dental bridge is a special oral device. It’s normally made of materials fused to either side of a pontic (i.e., an artificial tooth). This design lets it replace one to four missing adjacent teeth, meaning it can “fill” large smile gaps.
Of course, the best dental bridge candidates have lost teeth that were side-by-side. These patients will benefit the most – they can restore their smiles in one treatment. Plus, qualifying for a bridge isn’t hard; most adults with fair oral health can get one.

The Types of Dental Bridges
Ahead of your dental bridge treatment, Dr. Patel will closely assess your smile. This exam allows him to tailor your treatment plan to your needs. Once he’s wrapped that up, he’ll suggest you get one of the following types of dental bridges:
Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional dental bridge is the sort that’s been used the most in modern dentistry. In terms of design, it’s made of dental crowns fused to either side of an artificial tooth. That means it uses nearby natural teeth or “abutments” to stay in place.
Compared to the other kind, a traditional bridge is less expensive; its materials don’t cost as much. Still, a dentist must remove enamel from your abutments to place it.
Implant Bridge

An implant bridge (per its name) uses dental implants – metal posts placed in your jaw. Once the posts fuse with your jawbone, they secure the full prosthetic and keep it in place. The final implant bridge won’t fall or come loose like other prosthetic teeth can.
Unlike regular ones, implant bridges don’t alter your existing teeth. A dentist doesn’t have to “prepare” abutments to place them in your mouth. In exchange, these bridges tend to be costly.

The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge
A dental bridge from our office affords benefits like:
- Improved Oral Health – A dental bridge fills your smile gaps, preventing harmful bacteria from spreading in your mouth. It also stops your other teeth from tilting.
- Beautiful Results– Modern dental bridges “blend in” with your smile due to their porcelain teeth. They look gorgeous and lifelike as they restore your grin!
- Easier Eating – With a dental bridge’s teeth, you can chew tough foods more easily.
- Long-Lasting Effects – A typical dental bridge lasts 5-15 years, and well-maintained ones can reach lifespans of 20 years or more.
