Cigna Coverage Availability & Fees
Cigna offers both individual plans and plans that you can get through an employer. Here is a brief look at their individual plans:
- Cigna Dental 1500 provides up to $1,500 worth of coverage in a year. It also has a provision for orthodontic treatment.
- Cigna Dental 1000 has an annual maximum of $1,000 and does not cover orthodontia.
- Cigna Dental Preventive is a basic plan that applies only to preventive services, such as cleanings and exams.
If your Cigna coverage is relatively new, keep in mind that there is a waiting period before you’re eligible to receive certain services. You must have your policy for six months before you can receive minor restorative services, and for one year before you can receive major restorative services.
Both the 1500 and 1000 plans come with a deductible that you must pay before you receive any restorative work. However, all of the plans offer preventive care at no out of pocket cost when you visit an in-network provider — no deductible required. Since these policies are all DPPO plans, you can also use your benefits at out of network dental offices. However, out of network fees for both preventive and restorative care tend to be a bit higher.
